TOUCHSTONES-GOLD® Collaborative Design
World Strategy
View a scattering of innovation themes, strategies and policies by region. Some have a natural gold endowment, gold exploration but no targeted R&D in this sector. Others may have R & D policy aligned toward such endowment. Add a link or description of supportive mineral sector technology policies. This space is provided as a public service for solution- /design- / results- focused explorers, researchers, managers and executives; for technology, corporate strategy and government policy developers- all with the aim of advancing integrated technological development, precompetitive R&D, commercialization and applications in a "traditional" economic sector.
Many sites focus on precompetitive R&D initiatives for which some definition is in order. While mineral exploration and related research shares many of the fundamental characteristics of precompetitive R&D and proof of concept activities, in practice are separately considered from those in other industrial sectors. At the next phase, capital markets for risky mineral exploration ventures have historically been well-established compared to venture capital for other sectors.
Precompetitive R&D - A definition
-basic and applied R & D done collaboratively
-may include part of the development phase
-research results which are not immediately marketable, but may lead to creation of new products and services
-participating entitities have no immediate intention of marketing it
-activity involves resolution of a common technological problem
-activity may focus on developing families of products that will be adapted and delivered according to joint marketing requirements
Proof of Concept - A definition
-activities associated with the steps necessary to establish the commercial viability of a new product, process or service
-should demonstrate a high probability of a commercial transaction following the successful completion of their project
Mineral Exploration- A parallel
-applied exploration and basic R & D done collaboratively- in joint ventures, through property options; through special jointly funded research initiatives
-may include part of the property/mine development phase
-exploration results which are not immediately economic, but may lead to discovery of new producing mines
-participating entitities have no immediate prospect of production (junior "mining" sector), but will option and exit for production royalties
-exploration and R&D activity involves resolution of a common mineral resource discovery problem
-activity may focus on developing portfolios of projects that will be optioned according to joint venture requirements
